SOSA® Space Workshop

Scope

The current VITA-78 SpaceVPX industry standard addresses some of the needs of the space avionics community but lacks the interoperability that is needed to enable reuse and common sparing across multiple mission applications and reduce NRE for missions. This lack of interoperability in the current standard limits the ability of system designers to develop optimal avionics systems and presents a disincentive for industry to develop SpaceVPX modules.

A collaborative effort between government and industry was initiated two years ago within the Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA®) organization to develop an interoperable variant of SpaceVPX. The end goal of this “SOSA® Space” effort is to enable system integrators to compose avionics systems with multiple cards from multiple vendors that can be interoperate.

The intent of this workshop is to provide an overview of the breadth and status of the SOSA® Consortium’s efforts to improve the Technical Standard for the SOSA® Reference Architecture, and the overall implementation approaches as well as the particulars of the SOSA® Space Subcommittee content and its Space Appendix. Workshop participants can expect to learn about the beginnings of SOSA®, current content, a brief roadmap for the future, and how the SOSA® Space effort will benefit space avionics systems.

Preliminary Workshop Agenda

  1. Overview of the SOSA® organization
  2. Overview of the SOSA® Space Subcommittee
  3. Synopsis of the SOSA® Space Appendix
  4. Panel discussion on the need for interoperable space avionics and how SOSA® can best enable that interoperability

Note

A separate SOSA Space working meeting will also be held at the SMCIT/SCC conference. However, attendance at this meeting will be limited to current SOSA members.

Workshop Organization Team
