Justin Bautista is an accomplished electrical engineer and an aspiring practitioner in the field of space systems engineering. He currently works at the NASA Johnson Space Center, where he leads the Gateway Portable Computer and Gateway Support Server (GPC-GSS) project. This project aims to provide critical IT infrastructure for the Gateway, a lunar space station that will serve as a staging point for future missions to the Moon and Mars. Justin oversees a diverse team of engineers who are responsible for certifying, creating, and launching the GPC-GSS hardware, which are laptops and computer servers, and their respective software.
Justin has also been involved in several other innovative projects at NASA, such as developing wearable sensors to monitor astronauts’ CO2 exposure on the International Space Station (ISS), designing and developing robotic systems for use inside the Gateway space station, testing radiation resistant displays for deep space applications, and supporting the Human Landing System (HLS) computer human interface (CHI) requirements and integration.
Justin is currently pursuing his Master of Science in Space Systems Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University, where he is expanding his knowledge and skills in the design, development, and operation of space systems; he hopes to continue his career at NASA and contribute to the advancement of human spaceflight and exploration. Justin is an avid traveler, concert goer, and admirer of art, who enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
