Robot Operating System (ROS): Current Development, Roadmap, and Opportunities for Space Robotics Collaboration
Katherine Scott, the ROS Developer Advocate at the Open Source Robotics Alliance (OSRA), will present an overview of the current development and community engagement within the Robot Operating System (ROS) project. As the manager of its day-to-day community development and a long-term member and current Vice President of the Open Source Hardware Association (OSHWA), Ms. Scott brings a unique perspective on open-source ecosystems. This talk will detail the upcoming roadmap for ROS, including the L-turtle release and beyond. Crucially, it will emphasize how the space robotics community can actively participate in shaping ROS development to better serve the specific needs of this domain, fostering a shared open-source resource. Additionally, Ms. Scott will briefly discuss the synergistic role of open-source hardware in advancing space robotics.
Katherine Scott is the developer advocate for the Robot Operating System (ROS) and Gazebo projects at Intrinsic, an Alphabet subsidiary. She is also a board member for the Open Source Hardware Association (OSHWA). Prior to working on the ROS project Katherine was the image analytics team lead at Planet Labs and 3Scan, and founder and lead software engineer for both Tempo Automation, and Sight Machine. Katherine holds a masters degree from Columbia University and electrical engineering and computer engineering undergraduate degrees from the University of Michigan.
